Family Midwifery Student Packages
Flexibility & Respect
Building on the apprenticeship model, the Family Midwifery Practicum endeavors to create a clinical experience that helps you work your midwifery requirements into your busy life by developing an individualized program that incorporates your priorities of family-life and employment. This individualized approach allows for adaptations for a variety of skill levels, academic programs, and paths to becoming a midwife. Each student's contribution to the practice is valued. Students are paid based on their role in the care provided, allowing for funds for equipment, workshops, or childcare.
Quality & Value
Clinical experiences are supported by regular opportunities to ask questions, debrief challenges, and exchange feedback. Additionally, the Family Midwifery Practicum provides access to scheduled workshops to practice hands-on skills, dive deeper into theory, and understand the nuances of handling complications - always with an emphasis on discovering your uniqueness as a midwife, enhancing your professionalism, and building your interpersonal skills. Designated time is also set aside to discuss and set goals, review progress, and keep paperwork up to date. Costs for these services are kept at a minimum or offered free of charge.
As a student in the Family Midwifery Practicum, you are invited to attend meetings, workshops, and peer review with other students and practicing midwives to build relationships and better understand the profession as a whole. Ultimately, the goal of the Family Midwifery Practicum is to create a connected, professional community of midwives proficient in providing individualized, natural & holistic, low-intervention maternity care. You are encouraged to contribute your experience, your perspective, and your voice to the development of this vision.
